Best Fashion Books
If you want to admire the colorful illustrations, be inspired by legendary designers and models, learn more about the familiar (and not so) elements of clothing, then it’s time to diversify your library with books about fashion.
Christian Dior “Dior. Fashion Dictionary”.The book, tacitly recognized as the Bible of fashion, has been published since 1954. And Christian Dior fit into it the maximum possible amount of useful information. Here about fabrics, colors and styles, about simplicity and self-care. Dior talks about fashion, but at the same time stresses that it is only a woman’s ornament, a certain additional element that makes us even more beautiful. But the best thing about any image is, first and foremost, ourselves.
“400 Years of Fashion History”.This book is a classic of fashion literature. The title speaks for itself: the pages contain hundreds of years of fashion history of men’s and women’s costumes. But it’s not just a catalog with colorful illustrations – it’s a real textbook based on the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Historical references and commentary from renowned fashion experts, unusual facts about the details of the clothes and the brands that created them, complement the photographs and make the work truly valuable.
Marni Fogg’s “Fashion History. 100 Dresses That Changed the World.”The protagonist of this book is the dress in all its hypostases. Here and empire style outfits of French Empress Josephine, and little black dress, and new-look silhouettes and many others. The book is a pleasure not only to read but also to look through – the photos clearly demonstrate how fashion has changed and how cyclical it is.
Each outfit has a separate chapter dedicated to it and you’ll find not only descriptions of the dresses, but you’ll also get to know the stories of their creation, materials and styles. For example, did you know what chinoiserie is? No? Then definitely read on!
Caroline Cox, “Legendary Fashion Houses. A World History.”Fashion historian Caroline Cox shows the lives of fashion houses from the seventeenth century onward. You’ll find out what Lock & Co. and Gieves & Hawkes are famous for, and get a closer look at Hermes, Burberry, and many others. Within the pages of the book you will find the history of fifty fashion houses and an overview of one hundred and fifty brands that have all left their mark on the fashion industry.
Grace Coddington “Grace.”Grace Coddington has been called the Michelangelo of fashion. Courageous, confident in herself and her actions, she has become an important figure in the modern fashion industry and one of the few who dared to argue with Anna Wintour.
